Abstract

The research was conducted in one of the karst areas of Gunung Sewu, namely the Pacitan karst area. The Pacitan karst area has a unique geological complexity that differs from the geological conditions of the Gunung Sewu area in general. These differences include the conditions of underground rivers, which are one of the characteristics of karst areas. These regional differences are thought to be due to differences in geological activity and tectonic conditions in the Pacitan area. Therefore, this study focuses on mapping and reconstructing the tectonic geology of the Pacitan karst area to demonstrate the differences in tectonic activity occurring in the Pacitan karst compared to the Gunung Sewu karst area in general. The modeling method used is the gravity method. The gravity method utilizes variations in the gravitational field to obtain an overview of lithological thickness. The inversion results on the north–south transect show that the southern zone is dominated by thicker, more compact, and relatively pure carbonate layers compared to the northern zone, which is mixed with volcanic material. The west–east profile supports this pattern by showing consistent density trends, indicating more optimal karstification processes in the southern part. Further analysis using hillshade, slope, and density distribution data supports the spatial interpretation of fault structures, fracture zones, and tectonic evolution in the region. These findings are expected to serve as the basis for sustainable management of the Pacitan karst area, grounded in comprehensive geological data.
