Abstract

Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi enkapsulasi lumpur minyak bumi melalui teknik stabilisasi dan solidifikasi semen. Lumpur minyak bumi, yang terdiri dari hidrokarbon beracun dan logam berat, menimbulkan risiko serius terhadap lingkungan dan kesehatan. Metode yang diusulkan melibatkan pencampuran limbah berbahaya ini dengan semen untuk membentuk massa padat yang stabil, yang berpotensi digunakan sebagai bahan bangunan, dengan tujuan untuk mengimmobilisasi kontaminan dan mencegah pelepasannya ke lingkungan. Penelitian laboratorium dilakukan untuk mengevaluasi efektivitas metode ini dengan menggunakan lumpur minyak dari kilang Petronas. Pengujian yang dilakukan meliputi analisis kimia (konsentrasi logam berat dan total hidrokarbon petroleum), analisis fisik (kadar air), serta pengujian rekayasa seperti uji kuat tekan bebas dan uji kelarutan menggunakan prosedur Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa teknik stabilisasi dan solidifikasi semen secara signifikan mampu mengurangi kelarutan zat berbahaya dan menghasilkan blok beton dengan kekuatan mekanik yang dapat diterima. Temuan ini mendukung kelayakan metode tersebut sebagai pendekatan pengelolaan limbah yang berkelanjutan serta aplikasi potensial dalam bidang konstruksi, dengan rekomendasi untuk dilakukan studi lanjutan jangka panjang guna memvalidasi implementasi skala lapangan.

This study explores the encapsulation of petroleum sludge through cement stabilization and solidification techniques. Petroleum sludge, composed of toxic hydrocarbons and heavy metals, poses severe environmental and health risks. The proposed method involves mixing this hazardous waste with cement to form a stable, solid mass suitable for use as building materials, aiming to immobilize contaminants and prevent their release into the environment. Laboratory-based research evaluated the effectiveness of this method using petroleum sludge from the Petronas refinery. Tests conducted included chemical analysis (heavy metal concentration, and total petroleum hydrocarbons), physical analysis (moisture content), and engineering tests such as unconfined compressive strength and leachability using the Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP). The results demonstrated that cement stabilization and solidification significantly reduced the leachability of hazardous substances and yielded concrete blocks with acceptable mechanical strength. These findings support the feasibility of this method for sustainable waste management and potential construction applications, with recommendations for further long-term performance studies to validate field-scale implementation.
