Abstract

The rise of business culture globally has reshaped work into more than a source of income, it has become a lifestyle. This shift has led to increasing levels of workplace fatigue, with stress identified as one of the most recurring consequences. This final project investigates the role of architecture in mitigating this issue. Taking place in Southampton, a city undergoing a major urban redevelopment under its 2030 masterplan. The study proposes a design strategy that addresses mental and physical well-being by integrating a biophilic design approach, which aims to restore the human-nature connection within the built environment. This project aligns with the principles of sustainability, considering the economic, social, and environmental dimensions to support long-term resilience and user well-being. The proposed design is developed within the standards of the BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) framework, ensuring measurable performance in terms of sustainability and occupant health. By merging architecture with ecological sensitivity and user-centered design, this study presents an architectural response to the socio-psychological consequences of modern work culture.
