Abstract
Peningkatan kebutuhan air bersih oleh tenant di kawasan industri serta keterbatasan sumber air alami mendorong PT Surabaya Industrial Estate Rungkut (SIER) untuk mengolah kembali air effluent instalasi pengolahan air limbah (IPAL) melalui teknologi ultrafiltrasi dan reverse osmosis yang didukung penggunaan cartridge filter. Namun, tingginya frekuensi penggantian cartridge setiap 2-3 hari akibat belum optimalnya proses pre-treatment menyebabkan peningkatan biaya operasional.

The increasing demand for clean water by tenants in the industrial estate as well as limited natural water sources prompted PT Surabaya Industrial Estate Rungkut (SIER) to recycle wastewater treatment plant effluent water through ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis technology supported by the use of cartridge filters. However, the high frequency of cartridge replacement every 2-3 days due to the non-optimized pre-treatment process causes an increase in operational costs. This study aims to design a process optimization plan to extend cartridge life and streamline the treatment system. The planning strategy includes improving pre-treatment efficiency through contaminant reduction (Fe, Mn, Al, and oil and grease), adjusting coagulant and flocculant dosage, using agitators, and scheduling maintenance based on actual conditions. Estimated results showed a reduction in TSS > 91%, Fe reached 0-10,7 mg/L, Mn reached 1,6-6,1 mg/L, Al reached 1,0-6,9 mg/L, and oil and grease dropped to 0,18-0,89 mg/L. With these reductions, cartridge life is expected to increase to 5-7 days. This planning supports long-term operational efficiency, improves compliance with water quality and OHS regulations, and reflects the application of professionalism and engineering ethics in solving problems and operating the water treatment industry systematically and sustainably.
