Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan mengevaluasi kompetensi pelaut dalam penanganan muatan kapal, dengan fokus pada peran lembaga pendidikan dan pelatihan pelayaran serta penggunaan aplikasi loading software dalam meningkatkan keterampilan praktis. Metode desain thinking digunakan untuk memahami kebutuhan dan tantangan pelaut, dengan pendekatan user persona dan empathy map. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara dengan berbagai pihak dalam industri pelayaran dan kuesioner kepada perwira siswa di lembaga pendidikan dan pelatihan pelayaran. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kompetensi pelaut masih menghadapi kendala, terutama kurangnya pelatihan praktis yang sesuai kondisi nyata di kapal. Penerapan aplikasi loading sofware yang realistis efektif meningkatkan pengetahuan, keterampilan, dan sikap pelaut. Pengujian pretest dan posttest pada taruna taruni Politeknik Pelayaran Sumatera Barat menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan setelah penggunaan aplikasi loading software yang berbasis teknologi terkini. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa untuk meningkatkan kompetensi pelaut di indonesia, lembaga pendidikan dan pelatihan pelayaran perlu mengadopsi teknologi terkini, seperti simulator yang realistis berbasis teknologi, serta memperbarui kurikulum sesuai standar internasional Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers. Rekomendasi ini dapat menjadi dasar pengembangan pendidikan dan pelatihan pelaut guna meningkatkan daya saing pelaut Indonesia di pasar global.

This research aims to evaluate the competence of Seafarers in cargo handling, focusing on the role of maritime education and training institutions as well as the use of loading software applications in enhancing practical skills. The design thinking method is used to understand the needs and challenges of Seafarers, with an approach involving user personas and empathy maps. Data was collected through interviews with various parties in the shipping industry and questionnaires to cadet officers at maritime education and training institutions. The research results indicate that Seafarers' competencies still face obstacles, particularly the lack of practical training that aligns with real conditions on ships. The application of realistic loading software effectively enhances the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of Seafarers. Pretest and posttest evaluations of cadets at the Politeknik Pelayaran Sumatera Barat show significant improvement after the use of loading software applications based on the latest technology. This research concludes that to improve the competence of Seafarers in Indonesia, maritime education and training institutions need to adopt the latest technology, such as realistic technology-based simulators, and update the curriculum according to international Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers. This recommendation can serve as a foundation for the development of sailor education and training to enhance the competitiveness of Indonesian Seafarers in the global market.
