Abstract

This report presents the outcomes of an industrial internship conducted at the Science Techno Park (STP) Automotive, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), focusing on the design and installation of a High Voltage (HV) electrical system for a lower deck electric bus. The background of this project lies in the need to develop safe and efficient electric vehicle technology that complies with high-voltage electrical standards, while also supporting Indonesia’s battery electric vehicle (BEV) acceleration program. The primary objective of this internship was to study, design, install, and test an HV system that delivers power from the main battery to critical components such as the DC to DC converter, motor controller, and traction motor, ensuring that all high-voltage components operate optimally and safely. The methodology included literature review to understand the concepts and specifications of HV systems in electric vehicles, preparation of installation schematics, tools, and materials, execution of cable installation along with protective components (fuse, precharge, resistor, contactor, and terminal block), and electrical testing to verify system functionality. The battery used was a pack comprising 60 poch cells arranged in a 30-series and 2-parallel configuration, producing the required voltage and capacity for bus operation. The HV system was designed to minimize power losses, ensure user safety, and support efficient traction motor performance. The results show that the installed HV system operated as designed, delivered stable power, and supported bus operation without electrical leakage or faults. This internship contributed technically to the development of electric vehicles at ITS and provided direct learning experience in applying high-voltage electrical theory to practical automotive industry projects. The implemented HV system is expected to serve as a reference for future electric bus development, both in terms of design and safe, effective installation procedures.
