Abstract

Pipelines are known as the safest means of transportation for distributing fluids, both liquid and gas. Like other equipment in general, pipes can also experience failure and require an inspection program. The occurrence of pipe failure will impact the community around the pipeline as well as damage and pollution to the environment. One of the main causes of pipe failure is corrosion. Therefore, a risk assessment is necessary to determine the probability of failure, the consequences of failure, and the level of risk in the piping system, especially against corrosion. Pipeline risk assessment is one of the best methods to identify a potential event not only causing operational disruption but also incidents related to safety and environmental issues. This study discusses the risk assessment of the crude oil distribution pipeline from GS-3 (Gathering Station) to NBS (North Booster Station) along 11.1 km. The risk assessment in this study uses API 581 code and is carried out semi-quantitatively, where the calculation of the probability of failure using the Monte Carlo simulation method produces a result of 0.0149 and the consequence of failure is the area affected by the leak, which is 2094.77 ft2. So the results obtained are that the risk level of the 12" crude oil pipeline from GS-3 to NBS owned by PT. X is included in the medium category
