Abstract

Helixchanger adalah salah satu bentuk dari shell and tube heat exchangers (alat penukar panas cangkang dan buluh) yang terdiri dari shell atau cangkang, tube atau buluh, dan baffle atau penahan dan pengarah aliran. Perbedaan antara helixchanger dengan shell and tube heat exchangers konvensional adalah susunan baffles pada helixchangers merupakan potongan seperempat lingkaran ditata melingkar dengan sudut kemiringan tertentu. Dengan susunan baffle seperti terse but maka aliran fluida sisi shell akan menyerupai ulir. Tugas Akhir ini mengkaji unjuk kerja penukar panas, dan besar penurunan tekanan atau pressure drop pada helixchanger dengan kemiringan baffle 10°. Metode eksperimental diterapkan dengan peubah laju aliran fluida panas, air, pada suhu optimum 60°C. Debit fluida panas bervariasi antara 1500 /ph sampai 2700 /ph dan .fluida dingin bervariasi dari 500 /ph sampai 900 /ph, dengan kenaikan masing - masing 300 /ph dan 100 /ph. Dari hasil eksperimen alat penukar panas helix 10° aliran berlawanan didapatkan laju perpindahan panas aktual berkisar antara 6700 - 9600 Watt dan effectiveness antara 0.25 - 0.5 dengan NTU antara 0.3 - 0.6 pada Cr yang bervariasi antara 0.2 - 0.5.

Helixchanger is one form of shell and tube heat exchangers (shell and reed heat exchangers) consisting of a shell, tube, and baffle or retainer and flow director. The difference between helixchanger and conventional shell and tube heat exchangers is the arrangement of baffles in helixchangers is a quarter circle cut arranged in a circle with a certain angle of inclination. With such a baffle arrangement, the shell side fluid flow will resemble a screw. This final project examines the performance of the heat exchanger, and the amount of pressure drop in the helixchanger with a baffle inclination of 10°. The experimental method is applied with a variable flow rate of hot fluid, water, at an optimum temperature of 60°C. The hot fluid discharge varies between 1500 /ph to 2700 /ph and cold fluid varies from 500 /ph to 900 /ph, with an increase of 300 /ph and 100 /ph, respectively. From the experimental results of a 10° counter-flow helix heat exchanger, the actual heat transfer rate ranges from 6700 - 9600 Watts and effectiveness between 0.25 - 0.5 with NTU between 0.3 - 0.6 at Cr varying between 0.2 - 0.5
