Abstract
Pada beberapa suku cadang mesin dan otomotif sering di butuhkan material yang memiliki kekerasan, ketahanan aus dan ketangguhan yang tinggi. Grey cast iron merupakan material yang keras dengan ketahanan aus yang tinggi tetapi memiliki ketangguhan yang rendah. Austempering merupakan proses perlakuan panas yang sering di gunakan untuk meningkatkan ketangguhan material. Pada kenyataannya ketangguhan yang didapat sering kali kurang maksimal, hal ini di sebabkan kurang diperhatikannya parameter transfer time. Pemindahan material dari dapur austenisasi menuju dapur tempering membutuhkan waktu (transfer time), sehingga temperatur semakin turun dan dimungkinkan terbentuk pearlit. Transfer time yang tepat akan menghasilkan ketangguhan, kekerasan dan struktur mikro yang diinginkan. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan memvariasikan tranfer time pada proses austempering, mulai 15 detik, 68 detik dan 120 detik. Waktu penahanan pada austenisasi dan tempering adalah 1 jam. Setelah proses selesai kemudian dilakukan foto struktur mikro, uji kekerasan dan terakhir uji impact. Pengaruh transfer time terhadap ketangguhan adalah semakin lama transfer time maka kekerasan dan impact strength-nya semakin turun. Kekerasan dan impact strength tertinggi di dapatkan pada transfer time 15 detik, sedangkan terendah didapatkan pada transfer time 120 detik. In some machine and automotive parts, materials with high hardness, wear resistance, and toughness are often required. Grey cast iron is a hard material with high wear resistance but has low toughness. Austempering is a heat treatment process often used to increase material toughness. In reality, the toughness obtained is often less than optimal, this is due to insufficient attention to the transfer time parameter. The transfer of material from the austenitizing furnace to the tempering furnace requires time (transfer time), so that the temperature decreases and pearlite is possible. The correct transfer time will produce the desired toughness, hardness, and microstructure. This study was conducted by varying the transfer time in the austempering process, starting from 15 seconds, 68 seconds, and 120 seconds. The holding time for austenitizing and tempering is 1 hour. After the process is completed, microstructure photographs, hardness tests, and finally impact tests are carried out. The effect of transfer time on toughness is that the longer the transfer time, the lower the hardness and impact strength. The highest hardness and impact strength were achieved at a transfer time of 15 seconds, while the lowest was achieved at a transfer time of 120 seconds. At a transfer time of 68 seconds, a pearlite structure had formed.
