Abstract
Primary Air Heater berjenis Regenerative Heat Exchanger yang ada di PT PJB Paiton Probolinggo tersusun atas Hot Layer dan Cold Layer dengan prinsip kerja memanfaatkan gas huang dari boiler untuk memanaskan udara yang digunakan sebagai pengering dan pendorong batubara masuk ke boiler. Penurunan kualitas batubara mengakibatkan konsumsi bahan bakar berubah. Perubahan ini menyebabkan performansi Primary Air Heater tersebut menurun. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk meningkatkan performansi Primary Air Heater melalui penambahan Intermediate Layer. Analisis peningkatan performansi Primary Air Heater melalui penambahan Intermediate Layer ini dilakukan dengan Metode Numerik, yaitu Finite Difference Method pada aliran massa udara dan gas huang konstan serta kondisi perpindahan panas transient. Hasil yang diperoleh dari penelitian ini adalah peningkatan performansi Primary Air Heater, dimana temperatur udara keluar meningkat 5 % menjadi 260,22°C dan nilai efektifitas penukar panas meningkat 7 % menjadi 0,83 serta peningkatan efisiensi sistem pembangkit secara keseluruhan

The Regenerative Heat Exchanger Primary Air Heater at PT PJB Paiton Probolinggo consists of a Hot Layer and a Cold Layer with the working principle of utilizing huang gas from the boiler to heat the air used as a dryer and to push coal into the boiler. The decline in coal quality results in changes in fuel consumption. This change causes the performance of the Primary Air Heater to decrease. This research was conducted to improve the performance of the Primary Air Heater by adding an Intermediate Layer. Analysis of the improvement in the performance of the Primary Air Heater by adding an Intermediate Layer was carried out using the Numerical Method, namely the Finite Difference Method on constant air and huang gas mass flow and transient heat transfer conditions. The results obtained from this study are an increase in the performance of the Primary Air Heater, where the outlet air temperature increased by 5% to 260.22°C and the heat exchanger effectiveness value increased by 7% to 0.83 as well as an increase in the overall efficiency of the generating system
