Abstract

Crew boat is a marine transportation for the mobility of offshore workers as well as logistical supply needed for the offshore platform. Crew boat KCT-1901 is categorized as a planing boat with body hard chine. KCT-1901 needs an added power when it is sailing through a seaway. The reason behind this is because when a ship sails through a seaway, the ships experienced a heave and pitch motion that results in added resistance and added EHP. This study aims to predict the amount of added resistance and added EHP using the computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulation free surface multi fluid method in calm water and regular wave operating conditions with several Froude number (Fr) and wave periods. Verification CFD using Savitsky method for calm water and experiment for regular wave. The largest total resistance value with CFD on calm water is at Fr 0.72 of 38.978 kN. The average percentage deviation of total resistance with CFD and Savitsky method on calm water is 0.07% and CFD with experiments on regular waves is 4.37%. The largest total resistance value with CFD on regular waves occurs at Fr 0.72 with wave period 2.58 seconds of 26.626 kN. The largest added resistance value in this study occurs at Fr 0.72 which operates in regular waves as high as 0.5 m with a period of 2.58 seconds of 26.626 kN. The characteristics of the added resistance value of KCT-1901 in this study are directly proportional to the speed of the ship and inversely proportional to the wave period. While the largest added EHP value is found at Fr 0.72 regular with wave period 2.58 seconds of 246.553 HP.
