Abstract
KM. Mustika Kencana yang menggunakan dua buah main engine dengan daya masing-masing 4200 HP dengan putaran 1000 RPM mengalami kerusakan main engine sebelah portside. Perusahaan mengambil keputusan untuk mengganti satu main engine tersebut dengan engine berkapasitas daya. 2000 HP dengan 600 RPM. Penggantian main engine ini diharapkan mampu untuk memenuhi kecepatan service yang sebelumnya 21 knot menjadi sebesar 12 knot yang merupakan kecepatan yang dianggap efisien untuk daerah pelayaran Surabaya - Balikpapan. Dalam tugas akhir ini dibahas mengenai kelayakan penggantian main engine tanpa di ikuti dengan penggantian gearbox. Penggantian main engine tanpa di ikuti dengan penggantian gearbox hanya akan mencapai kecepatan service sebesar 12 knot dan kurang optimal untuk main engine yang baru karena dayanya berlebih. Oleh karena itu penggantian main engine yang baru sebaiknya di ikuti penggantian gearbox dengan ratio 2,760 : 1 sehingga nantinya kapal akan memiliki kecepatan service yang lebih tinggi yaitu sebesar 15 knot dan daya yang diserap oleh propeler akan lebih maksimal

KM. Mustika Kencana which uses two main engines with a power of 4200 HP each with a rotation of 1000 RPM experienced damage to the main engine on the portside. The company decided to replace one main engine with a power capacity engine. 2000 HP with 600 RPM. This main engine replacement is expected to be able to meet the service speed from the previous 21 knots to 12 knots which is a speed considered efficient for the Surabaya - Balikpapan shipping area. In this final assignment discussed the feasibility of replacing the main engine without being followed by replacing the gearbox. Replacing the main engine without being followed by replacing the gearbox will only achieve a service speed of 12 knots and is less than optimal for the new main engine because of its excessive power. Therefore, replacing the main engine with a new one should be followed by replacing the gearbox with a ratio of 2.760: 1 so that the ship will have a higher service speed of 15 knots and the power absorbed by the propeller will be maximized
