Abstract

Abstract—Some students who migrated chose to live in student boarding schools. Islamic boarding schools that are classified as narrow dwellings create an urgency to create new residential patterns. Currently, there are not many manufacturers that provide multifunctional furniture that can meet the daily needs of room occupants such as resting, studying, eating, and making up with only one piece of furniture for limited space occupancy. So the design of multifunctional furniture can be a solution for limited residential space. In the development process, steps are needed to formulate and answer problems. The steps or methods taken are literature studies, consumer research through questionnaires and observations, as well as interviews with Foundation owners. A literature study was conducted to find out the design aspects to be designed, as well as to find out competitors who have made or researched multifunctional furniture. Observations and questionnaires were conducted to determine field conditions in limited space occupancy and to determine the daily activities of room occupants. Interviews were conducted with the managers of the Foundation to find out the wishes and expectations of the multifunctional furniture design. At the end of this research, a compact multifunctional furniture product was produced that does not take up space but can also facilitate users in their daily
activities
