Abstract

The Indonesian coal mining industry faces significant dual challenges concerning operational efficiency and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions reduction. The high fuel consumption of mining trucks is a dominant issue, contributing up to 34% of the total operating costs, which necessitates crucial optimization, particularly amidst fluctuating commodity prices. Operator behavior is identified as the key determinant that directly influences fuel efficiency and energy inefficiency. Consequently, improving the behavioral aspect of operators is the fastest and most effective way to achieve both operating cost reduction and GHG emission mitigation in mining activities. This study aims to analyze the influence of operator behavior on the fuel consumption of ten Scania G500-A6X4 truck units belonging to PT XYZ. Utilizing the multiple linear regression method, the research processes real operator behavior data obtained from the Scania Driver Evaluation (SDE) telemetry system over the period of January to June 2025. The analysis results indicate that four operator behavior variables have a significant influence on fuel consumption: brake application, distance with power mode, coasting, and distance with cruise control. The resulting regression model explains 66,39% of the variation in fuel consumption, with the brake application and distance with power mode variables identified as the most dominant factors. Specifically, these empirical findings provide a strategic foundation for PT XYZ to design an eco-driving program focused on behavioral improvements that can reduce fuel consumption. This reduction in fuel consumption has a direct impact on lowering carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e) emissions. This strategic recommendation is expected to significantly reduce the company's operating costs and contribute meaningfully to the efforts of PT XYZ and Indonesia's national commitment to achieving the Net Zero Emission (NZE) 2060 target.
