Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang dan mengembangkan sistem kontrol laju aliran fluida dingin pada inlet serta sistem monitoring temperature fluida panas pada outlet dalam sebuah simulator heat exchanger tipe shell and tube. Simulator ini dirancang untuk mendukung praktikum di Laboratorium Safety Instrumented System (SIS) Departemen Teknik Instrumentasi, Fakultas Vokasi, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember. Pengaturan laju aliran fluida dingin dilakukan melalui pengendalian frekuensi pompa yang digunakan sebagai aktuator, sementara pemantauan temperatur fluida panas menggunakan sensor RTD PT100. Sistem kontrol berbasis Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) diterapkan untuk menjaga stabilitas aliran dan temperatur fluida sesuai dengan setpoint yang diinginkan. Hasil dari perpindahan panas yang terjadi antara fluida dingin dan panas diukur untuk mengevaluasi kinerja heat exchanger. Dengan mengendalikan laju aliran fluida, efisiensi perpindahan panas dapat dioptimalkan, yang ditunjukkan oleh perubahan temperature pada outlet fluida panas. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi signifikan dalam pengembangan alat bantu penunjang praktikum yang mensimulasikan proses perpindahan panas dalam skala laboratorium, serta mendukung pembelajaran mahasiswa dalam memahami karakteristik aliran dan perpindahan panas pada heat exchanger tipe shell and tube.

This research aims to design and develop a control system for the cold fluid flow rate at the inlet and a temperature monitoring system for the hot fluid at the outlet in a shell and tube heat exchanger simulator. This simulator is designed to support practical sessions in the Safety Instrumented System (SIS) Laboratory of the Instrumentation Engineering Department, Vocational Faculty, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology. The cold fluid flow rate is controlled by adjusting the pump frequency used as the actuator, while the hot fluid temperature is monitored using an RTD PT100 sensor. The control system, based on a programmable logic controller (PLC), is implemented to maintain the stability of fluid flow and temperature according to the desired set points. The heat transfer results between the cold and hot fluids are measured to evaluate the performance of the heat exchanger. By controlling the fluid flow rate, the efficiency of heat transfer can be optimized, as indicated by the temperature changes at the hot fluid outlet. This research is expected to significantly contribute to the development of practical tools that simulate heat transfer processes in a laboratory scale, as well as support student learning in understanding the flow characteristics and heat transfer in a shell and tube heat exchanger.
