Abstract

The development of digital technology has introduced various educational applications for early childhood. However, not all applications are designed with consideration of cognitive load, interactivity quality, and other factors that align with the developmental characteristics of young children. This research aims to develop an evaluation model for early childhood education applications by integrating cognitive and learnings aspects, interactivity and technology, as well as social and contextual indicators. This research adopts a model development approach through a comprehensive literature review and direct analysis of early childhood educational applications. A total of 55 evaluation indicators were identified and validated through expert judgement, then selected and weighted using the Relative Importance Index (RII) and Pairwise Comparison method, resulting in 28 indicators grouped into six variable and three main factors. The proposed evaluation mode was implemented on two educational applications, Khan Academy Kids and Paudpedia, involving 20 respondents. Usability evaluation was also conducted using the System Usability Scale (SUS) as a comparative measure. The weighting result indicate that the highest weighted variables are Learner Engagement & Motivation (23%), Social Interaction & Parental Involvement (23%), and Foundational Literacy & Numeracy (18%). The implementation of the model demonstrates stable results, with Khan Academy Kids achieving a total contribution score of 4,16 (“Good”) and Paudpedia scoring 3,38 (“Sufficient”). SUS result show of 70 “Good: for Khan Academy Kids and 64 “Sufficient” for Paudpedia, exhibiting consistent evaluation patterns.
