Abstract

The trend of remote working in Indonesia continues to increase, indicating that flexibility has become an important value in contemporary work patterns. While remote work offers various benefits, it also presents challenges such as decreased focus, social isolation, and limitations in providing workspaces that support long-term comfort. Coworking spaces have emerged as an alternative work environment; however, shifts in work patterns have led these spaces to be used more frequently for individual work rather than collaborative activities. Observations in several coworking spaces in Surabaya indicate that individual users tend to seek private, low-distraction work areas, with working durations ranging from 3 to 5 hours. Work environments characterized by rigid forms and dominant structural elements may contribute to mental fatigue and hinder psychological restoration. Therefore, a biophilic design approach is applied to the design of work furniture to create a workspace that is both productive and restorative. The application of biophilic design at the furniture scale is expected to enhance comfort, focus, and the emotional well-being of coworking space users.
