Abstract

The development of sustainable fashion has encouraged the exploration of environmentally friendly alternative materials to replace animal leather and synthetic leather. Banana pseudo-stem is an agricultural waste with significant potential to be developed into plant-based vegan leather. This final project aims to design a women’s bag product using vegan leather derived from banana pseudo-stem by applying weaving techniques as a design approach to enhance both aesthetic and functional qualities. The design method includes literature studies, material exploration, user needs analysis, weaving technique experimentation, and product design development. The results show that the application of weaving techniques strengthens the visual character of the material, minimizes surface irregularities, and creates a modern and natural product identity. The bag is designed with a structured compartment system and an inner–outer bag concept to support the activities of active female users. This project is expected to contribute to the development of sustainable local materials and support the growth of environmentally conscious fashion products in Indonesia.
