Abstract
High pressure heater (HPH) merupakan komponen vital dalam siklus Rankine pada Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Uap (PLTU) yang berfungsi meningkatkan efisiensi termal sistem melalui pemanasan awal feedwater. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang dan mengoptimalkan desain HPH pada PLTU berkapasitas 315 MW guna memenuhi spesifikasi termal berdasarkan heat balance aktual. Metode penelitian menggabungkan perhitungan manual analitis dengan Metode Kern dan simulasi perangkat lunak HTRI Xchanger Suite. Optimasi dilakukan dengan memvariasikan diameter dalam tube (BWG 12, 14, dan 16), konfigurasi tube layout (Rotated Triangular 60° dan Rotated Square 45°), serta kecepatan aliran feedwater (1,7 m/s hingga 2,0 m/s). Hasil analisis komparatif menunjukkan adanya hubungan timbal balik (trade-off) yang sginifikan antara performa termal dan efisiensi hidrolik. Meskipun konfigurasi rotated triangular memberikan koefisien perpindahan panas sisi shell yang lebih unggul, namun konfigurasi rotated square terbukti lebih optimal secara performa termal dan menghasilkan penurunan tekanan (pressure drop) sisi shell yang jauh lebih rendah dan aman. Desain terpilih menggunakan ketebalan pipa BWG 14 (ID 11,659 mm) dengan konfigurasi rotated square 45° pada kecepatan aliran feedwater 1,7 m/s, yang menghasilkan Overall Heat Transfer Coefficient (U) sebesar 2,569,5 W/m2.K dan pressure drop sisi shell sebesar 87,845 kPa, yang mana masih berada dibawah ambang batas aman yakni 100 kPa. Analisis vibrasi mengkonfirmasi bahwa desain terpilih memiliki parameter Fluid Elastic Instability (FEI) yang aman dari risiko kegagalan mekanis.

The High Pressure Heater (HPH) is a vital component in the Rankine cycle of a Steam Power Plant (PLTU), functioning to enhance system thermal efficiency through feedwater preheating. This study aims to design and optimize HPH for a 315 MW power plant to meet thermal specifications based on actual heat balance data. The research methodology integrates analytical manual calculations using Kern's method with HTRI XChanger Suite software simulations. Optimization was conducted by varying tube inner diameters (BWG 12, 14, and 16), tube layout configurations (Rotated Triangular 60° and Rotated Square 45°), and feedwater velocities (1,7 m/s to 2,0 m/s). Comparative analysis reveals a significant trade-off between thermal performance and hydraulic efficiency. Although the triangular configuration yields a marginally superior shell-side heat transfer coefficient, the Rotated Square (45°) configuration proves to be optimal due to significantly lower and safer shell-side pressure drop. The selected design utilizes BWG 14 tubes (ID 11.659 mm) with a 45° pattern at a velocity of 1.7 m/s, achieving an Overall Heat Transfer Coefficient (U) of 2,569.5 W/m²·K and a shell-side pressure drop of 87,845 kPa, well below the safe threshold of 100 kPa. Vibration analysis confirms that this design maintains a Fluid Elastic Instability (FEI) parameter within safe limits against mechanical failure.
