Abstract

Pencemaran air oleh zat warna sintetis seperti metilen biru (MB) merupakan permasalahan lingkungan yang memerlukan metode pengolahan yang efektif dan berkelanjutan. Fotokatalitik berbasis titanium dioksida (TiO₂) berpotensi digunakan dalam pengolahan limbah zat warna, namun kinerjanya masih terbatas oleh energi celah pita yang lebar dan tingginya laju rekombinasi pasangan elektron–lubang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kinerja fotokatalitik TiO₂ melalui doping nitrogen dan penambahan ion natrium (Na) dalam proses fotokatalitik penghilangan warna metilen biru di bawah iradiasi cahaya tampak. Fotokatalis N-TiO₂/Na disintesis menggunakan metode impregnasi berbantuan sonikasi dan dikalsinasi pada suhu 400 °C dengan variasi massa Na. Karakterisasi material dilakukan menggunakan X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Spektroskopi Raman, UV–Visible Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy (UV-DRS), Photoluminescence (PL), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), serta Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy–Energy Dispersive X-ray (FESEM–EDX). Hasil karakterisasi menunjukkan bahwa seluruh sampel mempertahankan fase anatase sebagai fase dominan tanpa terbentuknya fase kristalin baru, disertai perubahan sifat optik dan karakter permukaan. Analisis UV–DRS menunjukkan terjadinya penyempitan energi celah pita dari 3,15 eV pada TiO₂ murni menjadi 2,27 eV pada sampel N–TiO₂/Na dengan penambahan Na sebesar 0,04 g. Uji efisiensi penghilangan warna metilen biru menggunakan LED putih 40 W menunjukkan bahwa sampel N–TiO₂/Na 0,04 memiliki aktivitas fotokatalitik tertinggi dengan efisiensi penghilangan sekitar 84% setelah 180 menit iradiasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kombinasi doping nitrogen dan penambahan ion natrium efektif meningkatkan sifat optik dan kinerja fotokatalitik TiO₂ untuk aplikasi pengolahan limbah zat warna berbasis cahaya tampak.

Water pollution caused by synthetic dyes such as methylene blue (MB) remains a serious environmental issue that requires effective and sustainable treatment methods. Titanium dioxide (TiO₂)-based photocatalytic processes have attracted considerable attention for dye wastewater treatment; however, their performance is limited by a wide band gap and a high electron–hole recombination rate. This study aims to enhance the photocatalytic performance of TiO₂ through nitrogen doping and sodium (Na) incorporation for the photocatalytic color removal of methylene blue under visible light irradiation. N–TiO₂/Na photocatalysts were synthesized using a sonication-assisted impregnation method and calcined at 400 °C with varying Na contents. The prepared materials were characterized using X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, UV–Visible Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy (UV–DRS), Photoluminescence (PL), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy–Energy Dispersive X-ray (FESEM–EDX). The characterization results indicated that all samples retained the anatase phase as the dominant crystalline structure without the formation of new crystalline phases, while exhibiting modifications in optical properties and surface characteristics. UV–DRS analysis revealed a significant band gap narrowing from 3.15 eV for pristine TiO₂ to 2.27 eV for N–TiO₂/Na with an optimal Na addition of 0.04 g. Photocatalytic color removal tests using a 40 W white LED showed that N–TiO₂/Na 0.04 achieved the highest color removal efficiency of approximately 84% after 180 minutes of irradiation. These results demonstrate that the combined nitrogen doping and sodium incorporation effectively enhance the optical properties and photocatalytic performance of TiO₂ for visible-light-driven dye wastewater treatment.
