Abstract

Coal makes an important contribution to global energy production, but its environmental impact is a problem. Coal mining in Indonesia has several implications, including the economic contribution and environmental losses from coal mining. Currently, the evaluation of environmental and socio-economic impacts at PT. X is conducted individually. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is required to measure the impact of coal mining on environmental and socio-economic impacts. Then sustainability is being determined by knowing the relationship between the environment and society. Coal mining have two primary methods, which are surface mining and underground mining. The mining method used depends on the depth of the coal underground. Environmental Impact Assessment is an environmental feasibility analysis of a proposed project (under construction) because the implementation or operation of the project may affect the environment, natural resources, and/or human health. Sustainability in mining means ‘reducing the environmental impact of the mining industry and minimizing the impact of activities throughout the mining cycle’. This research is conducted using matrix method for the EIA, and mathematical model for the sustainability level determination. The most impacted environmental components are ecology, area usage, and soil of the area with the effect of 23.33%, 16.65%, and 10% respectively. The most positively impacted environmental components are economical issues, human health and immunity, and social issues with the effect of 27.81%, 19.77%, and 16.04% respectively. The impacting factor that contributes most to the effect are interference to surface water and changing usage of the area. The sustainability value is 0.759, which means that the project is in very strong level of sustainability. The result of this research will be used to mitigate the environmental impact caused by coal mining.

Batubara memberikan kontribusi penting bagi produksi energi global, tetapi dampak lingkungannya menjadi masalah. Penambangan batubara di Indonesia memiliki beberapa implikasi, antara lain kontribusi ekonomi dan kerugian lingkungan dari penambangan batubara. Saat ini evaluasi dampak lingkungan dan sosial ekonomi di PT. X dilakukan secara individu. Analisis Mengenai Dampak Lingkungan (AMDAL) diperlukan untuk mengukur dampak penambangan batubara terhadap dampak lingkungan dan sosial ekonomi. Kemudian keberlanjutan ditentukan dengan mengetahui hubungan antara lingkungan dan masyarakat. Penambangan batubara memiliki dua metode utama, yaitu penambangan permukaan dan penambangan bawah tanah. Metode penambangan yang digunakan tergantung pada kedalaman batubara di bawah tanah. Analisis Mengenai Dampak Lingkungan (AMDAL) adalah analisis kelayakan lingkungan dari suatu proyek yang diusulkan (sedang dibangun) karena pelaksanaan atau pengoperasian proyek dapat mempengaruhi lingkungan, sumber daya alam, dan/atau kesehatan manusia. Keberlanjutan dalam pertambangan berarti 'mengurangi dampak lingkungan dari industri pertambangan dan meminimalkan dampak kegiatan sepanjang siklus pertambangan'. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode matriks untuk AMDAL, dan model matematis untuk penentuan tingkat keberlanjutan. Komponen lingkungan yang terkena dampak paling besar adalah ekologi, pemanfaatan kawasan, dan tanah kawasan dengan pengaruh masing-masing sebesar 23,33%, 16,65%, dan 10%. Komponen lingkungan yang terkena dampak paling positif adalah masalah ekonomi, kesehatan dan kekebalan manusia, dan masalah sosial dengan pengaruh masing-masing sebesar 27,81%, 19,77%, dan 16,04%. Faktor dampak yang memberikan kontribusi paling besar adalah gangguan terhadap air permukaan dan perubahan penggunaan kawasan. Nilai keberlanjutannya adalah 0,759, yang berarti proyek tersebut berada pada tingkat keberlanjutan yang sangat kuat. Hasil penelitian ini akan digunakan untuk mitigasi dampak lingkungan akibat penambangan batubara.
