Abstract
The acquisition, processing, and manifestation of information occur at various system levels. On a micro scale, information flow is abstracted in a Human Information Processing (HIP) model. Museum, as one of the institutions that is inseparable from the communication function, also require the implementation of the HIP to make its communication media, through collection annotations, becoming more adaptive to variations in learning modes and changes of communication patterns due to digital disruption. Previous studies shown that museum still perceived as less interesting and less interactive especially for youth. From interview and direct observation to Museum Sepuluh Nopember, only 14% of the collection’s annotations are instructible. In addition, 96% of collection annotations are still text-based, 17% audio-based, 22% static pictorial, and 15% video-based. From this gap, the author aims to design interactive digital media using Augmented Reality (AR) with the aid of Double Diamond Design framework to enhance museum collection’s interactivity. The design is tested to 30 respondents using a User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ) and short interview. As a result, three aspects in UEQ have increased in mean value. Attractiveness increased from -0.48 (neutral) to 1.97 (positive), pragmatic quality increased from 0.34 (neutral) to 1.24 (positive), and hedonic quality increased from -1.34 (negative) to 2.25 (positive). The current media used by the museum has drawbacks in: (1) grammatical error, (2) nonadjustable background and fonts, (3) bad layout. Then, the proposed AR design has shortcomings in (1) problematic number annotation, (2) long load content duration, (3) lack of guidance variations.
