Abstract

The freshness of marine fish is important to pay attention to, because the selling price of marine fish is greatly influenced by the condition of freshness. Traditional fishermen on the AOFA-02 fishing boat in Palabuhanratu, Sukabumi Regency still use ice blocks to preserve their caught fish which is felt to be not optimal to maintain the freshness of the fish. To overcome this problem, a hybrid mini reefer container system (solar cells and generators) was designed to answer the needs of safe, fresh and quality transportation of marine fish products. The design was carried out using data related to the AOFA-02 ship and literature studies. The data obtained is processed to obtain the design and cooling load of the mini reefer container. Furthermore, the total cooling load will be used to select the main components of the hybrid mini reefer container system. To operate the mini reefer container, the need for electrical energy during the day will be provided by solar panels and generators. At night, the need for electrical energy will be provided by batteries and generators. The technical feasibility based on the efficiency of the refrigeration system is 76%, and the COP value of the system is close to the carnot COP value, so the efficiency is categorized as good. Based on the load weight, the hybrid mini reefer container system installation produces less weight than when fishermen use ice blocks. In terms of economic feasibility, the operational costs of the hybrid mini reefer container system are 38.34% more efficient than when fishermen use ice blocks. The earliest BEP estimates occur in the seventh month and the latest BEP in the fifteenth month because the BEP in this study is very dependent on fish production.
