Abstract
Kebutuhan energi listrik di Indonesia terus meningkat seiring dengan pertumbuhan jumlah penduduk, perkembangan sektor industri, serta kemajuan teknologi. Namun demikian, pemenuhan kebutuhan energi listrik nasional hingga saat ini masih didominasi oleh Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Uap (PLTU) yang berbahan bakar fosil khususnya batu bara dan Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Diesel (PLTD). Hal ini menyebabkan tingginya ketergantungan terhadap sumber energi tidak terbarukan serta menimbulkan berbagai permasalahan lingkungan. Indonesia memiliki potensi energi terbarukan yang besar, salah satunya energi gelombang laut, khususnya di wilayah pesisir selatan Indonesia yang meliputi Sumatra, Jawa, Bali, dan Nusa Tenggara, dengan karakteristik gelombang laut yang relatif tinggi dan konsisten sepanjang tahun. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menganalisis potensi energi gelombang laut di wilayah pesisir selatan Indonesia sebagai sumber energi terbarukan dalam mendukung sistem PLTU dan PLTD. Analisis dilakukan menggunakan data sekunder gelombang laut dari European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). Data diolah menjadi wave matrix untuk menganalisis distribusi tinggi dan periode gelombang serta power matrix untuk menghitung potensi daya gelombang laut yang dapat dikonversi menjadi energi listrik. Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan informasi mengenai potensi energi gelombang laut serta menjadi dasar dalam pemilihan teknologi konversi energi yang sesuai guna mendukung upaya diversifikasi energi nasional, pengurangan ketergantungan pada bahan bakar fosil dan pengembangan energi berkelanjutan di Indonesia.

Electricity demand in Indonesia continues to increase in line with population growth, industrial development, and technological advancement. However, the national electricity supply is still predominantly generated by fossil-fuel based power plants, particularly coal-fired steam power plants (PLTU) and diesel power plants (PLTD), resulting in a high dependence on non-renewable energy sources and environmental issues. Indonesia possesses significant renewable energy potential, one of which is ocean wave energy, especially along the southern coastal region of Indonesia, including Sumatra, Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara, which are characterized by relatively high and consistent wave conditions throughout the year. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the potential of ocean wave energy in the southern coastal waters of Indonesia as a renewable energy source to support existing PLTU and PLTD systems. The analysis was conducted using secondary wave data from The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). The data were processed into a wave matrix to analyze the distribution of significant wave height and wave period, and a power matrix to estimate the wave power potential that can be converted into electrical energy. The results of this study are expected to provide insights into the potential of ocean wave energy and serve as a basis for selecting appropriate energy conversion technologies to support national energy diversification strategy, reduces dependence on fossil fuels, and the development of sustainable energy in Indonesia.
