Abstract

This research focuses on using natural materials as insulation on the walls of fish hold. The purpose of this study was to design the composition of the fish hold wall with an insulating layer made from a mixture of polyurethane and coconut fiber and analyze the temperature distribution on the hatch wall and cooling temperature in the fish hold. The method used is a numerical method in the form of FEM (Finite Element Method) simulation to see the temperature distribution on the walls and CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulation to see the distribution of fluids and fish in the hold. The FEM simulation was carried out in 4 variations, namely 100% polyurethane, 90% polyurethane and 10% coconut fiber, 80% polyurethane and 20% coconut fiber, and 70% polyurethane and 30% coconut fiber. The CFD simulation was carried out in 3 variations: an empty hold, hold with chilled water, and a hold with chilled water and fish. The data analysis method is done by comparing the data between the simulation results and the calculation results. FEM simulation results show that the hatch wall with insulation from a mixture of 90% polyurethane and 10% coconut fiber was chosen as the best wall design with the lowest minimum temperature obtained, which is -8.5265e-14°C. The results of the CDF simulation show an increase in the temperature of the chilled water which starts at 1,259°C then becomes 3,5°C when fish is added, and the fish temperature becomes 2.2°C. There is a difference between the simulation results and the calculation results. The data from the simulation results have a lower value than the calculation results, so it can be said that the simulation method is more accurate than the manual calculation method.
