Abstract

The floating health center is one solution to the problem of health equity in the territory of Indonesia teritorry by having a combined concept of the of a ship and a health center. In its own operation, the floating health center has conditions that must be maintained, one of which is the hiegine of the ship's domestic system, especially the temperature of the water that will be used for bathing and washing clothes. There is an idea to maintain the hygiene of the ship's domestic system by creating a heat exchanger that utilizes exhaust gas from the ship's main generator called a heat waste recovery. This research was conducted to plan the design of a plate and frame type heat exchanger that utilizes heat waste recovery to meet the need to maintain the hygiene of the 65 GT floating health center's domestic system. The method in making the design is carried out in two stages, namely empirical studies and design validation using modeling software. The heat exchanger itself is planned to use a plate and frame type with a chevron angle configuration of 60o with a water fluid output temperature of 70oC in accordance with the provisions of the ministry of health. In the results obtained a comparison between empirical studies and Software, the value of the heat transfer area has a ratio of 3,606%, the value of heat exchanger duty has a ratio of 2,072%, and the construction of the number of plates based on empirical studies requires 193 and Software requires a number of plates of 189 units which has a ratio of 2,938%. And it can be stated that the planned design can meet the needs of the ship's domestic system which requires heat of 22,943 kW with a heat exchanger duty of 84,482 kW.
