Abstract

Indonesia is a maritime country with relatively close distances between islands, so that one of the maritime transportation media that can be utilized is in the form of speed boats, Roll On - Roll Off (Ro-Ro) ships, and people living on the coast are dominated by fishermen. There are indications that the ship uses pipes with PVC material as a fuel system, which do not meet the classification standards, that are not in accordance with their design function, so the safety standards of these pipes need to be reviewed, so that later there will be requirements or guidelines using PVC pipes as piping systems on ships. In the technical analysis of PVC material, it is necessary to have a recommendation on the use of PVC material, by testing the strength of the PVC material. This research was simulated by carrying out a survey of ships using a fuel system with PVC material, the survey results became input for specimens design in applications. The results of the survey found that the object of the ship was using PVC material reinforced with polyester with a diameter of 12.7 mm with a truck engine that had been converted for ship main engine. Then carried out a simulation of the survey results to find the maximum pressure from the effect of water hammer, structural analysis to determine the deformation of the material. The simulation begins with the creation of a specimen model on the Solidwork application and runs on the Ansys Fluent and Ansys Static Structure. Simulation results obtained maximum pressure data of 232611.7 Pascal at a flowrate of 0.14 m/s, diameter deformation of 0.132 mm, equivalent value of 21.4 Mpa.
