Abstract

Telah dilakukan penelitian mengenai pembuatan adsorben jerami padi yang diaktivasi dengan H3PO4 1 M untuk pengurangan Cr(VI) dalam larutan berair. Jerami padi dicuci, dikeringkan, dan dijadikan serbuk sebelum dapat digunakan sebagai bahan baku pembuatan adsorben. Serbuk jerami padi dipanaskan pada suhu 450 oC selama 120 menit untuk memperoleh adsorben jerami padi yang selanjutnya diaktivasi dengan H3PO4 1 M selama 240 menit. Karakterisasi FT-IR dilakukan untuk mengetahui gugus fungsi yang berada pada permukaan bahan baku dan adsorben yang diperoleh. Spektra FT-IR menunjukkan adanya gugus hidroksi, karboksilat, aromatik, dan eter pada permukaan jerami padi dan adsorben yang dibuat. Pengurangan ion Cr(VI) dalam larutan berair dilakukan menggunakan adsorpsi metode batch, dengan variasi pH larutan Cr(VI) sebesar 1, 2, 3, 4, dan 5 dan variasi waktu kontak selama 5 – 720 menit. Persen pengurangan Cr(VI) tertinggi terjadi pada pH 2 dan mencapai kesetimbangan pada Waktu kontak 600 menit sebesar 66,90 %.

This study used rice straw as raw material to produce adsorbent activated with of H3PO4 1 M to remove Cr(VI) ions from aqueous solution. Rice straw was first prepared by to obtain clean, dry, and powdered raw materials. The prepared raw material further heated at temperature of 450 oC for 2 hours to obtain adsorbent. Said adsorbent then activated using H3PO4 1 M by stirring mixture for 4 hours at 250 rpm. Produced activated adsorbent then characterized by FTIR to study the functional group that present in the surface of activated carbon. The results shows that rice straw and adsorbent surface contains hydroxy, carboxylic, aromatic, and eter group. Adsorption of Cr(VI) ion was done by batch adsorption method, the pH of Cr(VI) solutions is set to to 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 to obtain the optimum pH and contact time to 5 – 720 minutes to obtain the equilibrium time. Result showed the optimum pH of adsorption is found at pH 2 and the equilibirum was reached at 600 minutes contact time resulting the highest percent removal of Cr(VI) ions at 66,90 %
