Abstract

Pre plant design microcrystalline cellulose using empty palm oil bunches as raw material. Empty palm oil bunches is a solid waste produced from palm oil industry with total of 22-23% of the harvest carried out with one of the components named lignocellulose. Lignocellulose consists from cellulose (35-50%), hemicellulose (20-35%), and lignin (10-25%). That cellulose content can be further processed into microcrystalline cellulose. This plant is planned start operating in 2025 with a capacity of 10000 tons per year and located at Kampar, Riau. The processing process consists of 4 stages, the first stage is treatment, the OPEFB is reduced in size, then the lignocellulosic content is broken down using continuous steam explosion and saturated steam. The second stage is the delignification process using the organosolve method with the help of NH4OH and ethanol. From this process, the slurry is obtained which is then separated and proceeds to the next stage. The third stage is bleaching which aims to degrade the remaining lignin, and the last stage is reducing the size of microcrystalline cellulose according to the standard. This factory requires an investment of Rp.308,701,221,355.1 and a total production cost of Rp.157,870,478,139.8 with an estimated sales of Rp.213,236,761,592.3. The estimated age of the factory is 25 years with an IRR of 23.95% with a POT of 9.2 years and a BEP of 51%.
