Abstract

PT. XYZ is a company engaged in manufacturing baby products in Indonesia. The increasing demand of baby products requires PT XYZ to be able to follow and deal with these changes. However, the challenge faced by the company is that there are still many risks that are encountered during its production activities that may hinder the company's achievement in meeting customer needs. Therefore, this research aims to conduct risk management study to identify and evaluate the potential risk events that occur during the production activities by using Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) methods. Based on the risk identification results, there are 70 risk events that are encountered in the production activities held by the company. These risk events are evaluated by calculating the Risk Priority Number (RPN), categorizing the level of each risk, and determining the priority of risks based on Pareto 80/20. Based on the results of risk prioritization, it was obtained that there are five critical risks to be prioritized for further mitigation strategies. The determination of risk mitigation strategy in response to each critical risk is done by using the AHP method. Based on the results of AHP calculations, several alternative risk mitigation strategies are obtained that are prioritized for each critical risk. Alternative risk mitigation strategy in response to risk of long lead time during quality control is to train or add more QC workers with a weight value of 0.50. Alternative risk mitigation strategy in response to risk of lack of skilled workers to operate machine is to refine recruitment process to hire new employee with a weight value of 0.750. Alternative risk mitigation strategy in response to risk of inventory shrinkage is to use stock cards in the warehouse to control inventory with a weight value of 0.714. Alternative risk mitigation strategies in response to risk of fabric wastage is to conduct a systematic training approach to cutting operators with a weight value of 0.643. Alternative risk mitigation strategy in response to risk of sewing machine keeps jamming is to train operators to perform basic maintenance tasks with a weight value of 0.643.
