Abstract

The Submarine Monument (Monkasel) or KRI Pasopati 410 is a significant maritime cultural heritage site in Surabaya, highly vulnerable to physical deterioration and natural disasters. The limitations of existing two-dimensional documentation necessitate accurate three-dimensional digital archives as a basis for preservation and future reconstruction. This study acquired three-dimensional spatial data using a Leica RTC360 Terrestrial Laser Scanner (TLS) for the interior compartments and lower hull exterior, and an Airborne Laser Scanner (ALS) mounted on a DJI Matrice 350 RTK UAV equipped with a Zenmuse L2 sensor for the upper deck and conning tower. The geodetic reference framework was established from four Ground Control Points (GCPs) measured using static GNSS tied to the CORS network via the NRTK BIG portal, and 12 Independent Check Points (ICPs) obtained using an Electronic Total Station (ETS) with the tachymetry method. TLS point cloud registration used a cloud-to-cloud approach based on the Iterative Closest Point algorithm in Leica Cyclone REGISTER 360 Plus and CloudCompare, yielding an average bundle error of 0.006 m across 68 scan setups. The interior three-dimensional model was reconstructed through mesh generation in Agisoft Metashape, while the exterior was modelled using NURBS in Rhinoceros 3D and optimised in Blender. Geometric accuracy validation demonstrated the TLS-derived 3D model yielded an RMSE of 0.012 m, satisfying the 2-cm accuracy class, whereas the ALS data yielded an RMSE of 0.055 m, meeting the 10-cm accuracy class based on ASPRS. The Virtual Reality application was created in Unity3D and deployed on a Meta Quest 3S Head-Mounted Display, offering immersive 1:1-scale teleportation navigation across seven main compartments of KRI Pasopati with interactive panels detailing the history and technical function of each compartment.
