Abstract

================================================================================================================================
The operational reliability of the power plant heavily relies on the maintenance of key components, particularly the turbine lubrication system. The main objective of this study is to analyze the efficiency of the gear pump used in the turbine lubrication process from the reservoir tank to the upper guide bearing on the B3 floor of PLTA Sutami. The methodology involves literature study, technical data collection of the pump and piping components, and calculating dynamic head losses, Water Horse Power (WHP), and Brake Horse Power (BHP). Based on theoretical calculations, the pump, which has a capacity of 60 liters/minute and uses Mobil DTE Oil Heavy Medium, operates at an efficiency of 51%. This value indicates that 51% of the motor's mechanical power is successfully converted into hydraulic energy, while the remaining 49% is lost due to internal friction and heat. This efficiency falls below the modern industry standard for gear pumps of 70%-90%, indicating suboptimal performance. Recommendations for improvement include the implementation of real-time flow monitoring, regular pressure measurements, and thorough inspections of internal pump components to detect potential wear that could degrade the overall efficiency of the lubrication system.
