Abstract

Magang industri dilaksanakan di PT. Pabrik Kertas Tjiwi Kimia, Tbk selama periode 3 Februari hingga 3 Juni 2025 pada Divisi Area Maintenance 3 yang mencakup area Chemical Plant, Waste Water Treatment, dan Fresh Water Treatment. Kegiatan magang bertujuan untuk memahami penerapan sistem maintenance di industri serta menganalisis permasalahan nyata yang terjadi pada peralatan produksi, khususnya kerusakan mechanical seal pada pompa soda kaustik P-254 di unit Soda Membrane 1. Analisis dilakukan melalui metode observasi lapangan, pengumpulan data operasional, inspeksi visual terhadap komponen yang mengalami kerusakan, studi literatur, serta diskusi dengan teknisi dan pembimbing lapangan. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa penyebab utama kerusakan mechanical seal adalah penyumbatan resin pada jalur pendinginan sehingga menghambat sirkulasi fluida pendingin. Kondisi tersebut menyebabkan peningkatan temperatur (overheating) pada mechanical seal yang berakibat pada kerusakan komponen dan kebocoran fluida soda kaustik. Dampak yang ditimbulkan meliputi penurunan performa pompa, berkurangnya efisiensi proses produksi, meningkatnya biaya perawatan, serta potensi pencemaran lingkungan akibat kebocoran fluida korosif. Tindakan perbaikan dilakukan melalui penggantian mechanical seal yang rusak dan pembersihan jalur pendinginan. Sebagai upaya pencegahan kerusakan berulang, direkomendasikan penerapan sistem pendinginan sesuai standar API 682 Plan 53A karena menggunakan sistem barrier fluid tertutup yang mampu menjaga stabilitas temperatur, meningkatkan keandalan mechanical seal, serta memperpanjang umur pakai komponen. Kegiatan magang ini memberikan pengalaman dalam penerapan konsep maintenance, analisis kegagalan komponen, serta penyusunan rekomendasi perbaikan berdasarkan kondisi aktual di industri.

The industrial internship was conducted at PT. Pabrik Kertas Tjiwi Kimia, Tbk from February 3 to June 3, 2025, in the Area Maintenance 3 Division, which covers the Chemical Plant, Waste Water Treatment, and Fresh Water Treatment units. The internship aimed to understand the implementation of industrial maintenance systems and to analyze actual equipment failures, particularly the failure of the mechanical seal in the caustic soda pump P-254 at the Soda Membrane 1 unit. The analysis was carried out through field observations, operational data collection, visual inspection of the damaged components, literature review, and discussions with technicians and field supervisors. The results indicated that the primary cause of the mechanical seal failure was resin accumulation that clogged the seal cooling line, preventing proper circulation of the cooling fluid. This condition caused the mechanical seal to overheat, leading to component failure and caustic soda leakage. The failure resulted in reduced pump performance, decreased production efficiency, increased maintenance costs, and potential environmental contamination due to the leakage of corrosive fluid. Corrective actions included replacing the damaged mechanical seal and cleaning the cooling line. To prevent similar failures in the future, the implementation of an API 682 Plan 53A sealing support system is recommended because it utilizes a closed-loop barrier fluid system that provides stable cooling, improves mechanical seal reliability, and extends component service life. This internship provided practical experience in industrial maintenance, failure analysis, and the development of technical improvement recommendations based on actual industrial conditions.
