Abstract
Magang Industri dilaksanakan di PT Pabrik Kertas Tjiwi Kimia Tbk pada Divisi Area Maintenance 3 yang mencakup area Chemical Plant, Waste Water Treatment, dan Fresh Water Treatment. Kegiatan magang berlangsung dari 3 Februari 2025 hingga 3 Juni 2025 dengan fokus tugas khusus pada redesain shaft blower scrubber drying di area kaporit Chemical Plant. Permasalahan utama yang ditemukan adalah kerusakan pada shaft dan nut impeller akibat korosi dan keausan yang dipengaruhi oleh lingkungan kerja yang korosif, paparan gas klorin, kelembapan, serta desain komponen yang masih memiliki celah sehingga memungkinkan zat korosif masuk ke area ulir dan shaft. Metode yang digunakan meliputi observasi lapangan, studi literatur, pengumpulan data teknis, diskusi dengan tim maintenance, analisis penyebab kerusakan, serta pembuatan usulan desain baru menggunakan pemodelan tiga dimensi (3D). Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa material carbon steel S55C kurang sesuai untuk lingkungan kaporit karena memiliki ketahanan korosi yang rendah. Oleh karena itu, diusulkan redesain dengan mengganti material shaft dan nut impeller menggunakan Titanium Grade 5 serta mengubah desain shaft dari ulir luar (external thread) menjadi ulir dalam (internal thread). Selain itu, nut impeller direkomendasikan menggunakan model hex flange bolt untuk menutup celah yang memungkinkan kontak langsung dengan gas Cl₂. Redesain ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan ketahanan korosi, mempermudah proses maintenance, mengurangi frekuensi corrective maintenance, serta memperpanjang umur pakai shaft hingga lebih dari 10 tahun. Dengan demikian, redesain shaft blower scrubber drying dapat menjadi solusi untuk meningkatkan keandalan dan efisiensi sistem produksi di area Chemical Plant.

An industrial internship was conducted at PT Pabrik Kertas Tjiwi Kimia Tbk within the Area Maintenance 3 Division, covering the Chemical Plant, Wastewater Treatment, and Fresh Water Treatment areas. The internship was carried out from February 3, 2025, to June 3, 2025, with a specific focus on redesigning the scrubber drying blower shaft in the calcium hypochlorite (kaporit) area of the Chemical Plant. The primary issue identified was damage to the shaft and impeller nut caused by corrosion and wear resulting from the corrosive working environment, exposure to chlorine gas, humidity, and a component design that still contained gaps, allowing corrosive substances to penetrate the threaded and shaft areas. The methodology employed included field observations, literature review, technical data collection, discussions with the maintenance team, failure analysis, and the development of a new design proposal using three-dimensional (3D) modeling. The analysis results indicated that S55C carbon steel was unsuitable for the calcium hypochlorite environment due to its low corrosion resistance. Therefore, a redesign was proposed by replacing the shaft and impeller nut materials with Titanium Grade 5 and modifying the shaft design from an external thread to an internal thread configuration. In addition, a hex flange bolt design was recommended for the impeller nut to eliminate gaps that would otherwise allow direct contact with chlorine (Cl₂) gas. The proposed redesign is expected to improve corrosion resistance, simplify maintenance procedures, reduce the frequency of corrective maintenance, and extend the shaft service life to more than 10 years. Therefore, the redesigned scrubber drying blower shaft provides a practical solution for improving the reliability and efficiency of the production system in the Chemical Plant area.
