Abstract
PT. DSM-Firmenich Aromatics Indonesia merupakan perusahaan manufaktur yang berfokus pada produksi perasa (flavor). Laporan magang ini difokuskan pada departemen produksi di lini Continuous Durarome, khususnya dalam mengevaluasi efisiensi penggunaan pelarut pencuci Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA). Berdasarkan data pengamatan pada Januari-September 2025, rasio konsumsi IPA terhadap kuantitas produk (IPA/Qty) untuk produk tonality Herbs mencapai 15,38%, yang melampaui target penurunan dari perusahaan sebesar 12,62%. Pemecahan masalah ini dianalisis menggunakan pendekatan Lean Six Sigma
melalui tahapan DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control). Hasil analisis menemukan bahwa akar masalah dari tingginya rasio tersebut adalah ketidakefektifan pemisahan fase pada unit hydrocyclone. Hal ini disebabkan oleh operasi yang berada di luar kapasitas desain dan konfigurasi diameter apex aktual (25,4 mm) yang terlalu besar. Kondisi ini menyebabkan IPA tidak dipulihkan dengan baik pada aliran overflow, melainkan banyak terbuang ke aliran underflow. Melalui simulasi perbaikan menggunakan Aspen Plus,dibuktikan
bahwa memodifikasi desain dengan mengecilkan diameter apex menjadi 12 mm merupakan solusi yang optimal. Modifikasi ini mampu menurunkan rasio IPA/Qty secara drastis menjadi 3,72% dan di saat yang sama berhasil mempertahankan perolehan padatan produk Durarome® yang sangat baik sebesar 96,83% di aliran underflow. Solusi modifikasi alat ini direkomendasikan untuk menekan pemborosan pelarut dan meningkatkan efisiensi proses secara menyeluruh.

Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) solvent usage. Based on observation data from January to September 2025, the ratio of IPA consumption to product quantity (IPA/Qty) for Herbs tonality products reached 15.38%, which exceeded the company's
reduction target of 12.62%. This problem was analyzed using the Lean Six Sigma approach through DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) phases. The analysis revealed that the root cause of this high ratio was ineffective phase
separation in the hydrocyclone unit. This inefficiency was driven by operations beyond the design capacity and an excessively large apex diameter configuration of 25.4 mm. Consequently, the majority of IPA was not recovered through the overflow stream but was instead lost to the underflow stream. Through improvement simulation using Aspen Plus, it was proven that modifying the design by reducing the apex diameter to 12 mm is the optimal solution. This
modification successfully lowered the IPA/Qty ratio significantly to 3.72% while maintaining an excellent Durarome® solid recovery rate of 96.83% in the underflow stream. This equipment modification is recommended to minimize solvent loss and improve overall process efficiency.
