Abstract
Industri kelapa sawit Indonesia menghadapi tantangan besar dalam pengelolaan limbah cair Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) yang masih didominasi sistem kolam terbuka sehingga menghasilkan emisi metana dengan potensi pemanasan global tinggi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) menganalisis kondisi pengelolaan POME di PT XYZ dibandingkan praktik terbaik nasional dan internasional; (2) menentukan teknologi upgrading biogas paling optimal menggunakan metode Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP); (3) menilai kelayakan teknis dan ekonomis pembangunan pabrik Bio-Compressed Natural Gas (Bio-CNG); serta (4) merumuskan strategi pengembangan dan replikasi proyek Bio-CNG secara berkelanjutan. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan terintegrasi AHP, Techno-Economic Analysis (TEA), dan Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). Kriteria AHP meliputi Technology Readiness Level, methane loss, methane purity, investment cost, carbon footprint, land footprint, dan water footprint. Analisis TEA dilakukan menggunakan indikator NPV, IRR, dan payback period, sedangkan LCA digunakan untuk mengevaluasi dampak lingkungan dengan pendekatan gate-to-grave. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sistem pengelolaan POME PT XYZ berbasis Bio-CNG memiliki kinerja lingkungan lebih baik dibanding sistem open lagoon konvensional. Teknologi membrane separation menjadi alternatif upgrading paling optimal berdasarkan sintesis AHP. Analisis TEA menunjukkan proyek Bio-CNG layak secara teknis dan ekonomis pada berbagai skenario harga energi, sedangkan analisis LCA menunjukkan potensi penurunan emisi metana hingga 80–90%. Penelitian ini juga telah melakukan robustness validation melalui validasi AHP, TEA, dan LCA untuk memastikan konsistensi dan reliabilitas hasil penelitian. Temuan ini mendukung pengembangan industri kelapa sawit rendah emisi, penerapan ekonomi sirkular, dan pencapaian target Net Zero Emission Indonesia.

The Indonesian palm oil industry faces significant challenges in managing Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) liquid waste, which is still dominated by open lagoon systems, resulting in methane emissions with high global warming potential. This study aims to: (1) analyze the condition of POME management at PT XYZ compared to national and international best practices; (2) determine the most optimal biogas upgrading technology using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method; (3) assess the technical and economic feasibility of building a Bio-Compressed Natural Gas (Bio-CNG) plant; and (4) formulate a strategy for the development and replication of the Bio-CNG project in a sustainable manner. The study uses an integrated approach of AHP, Techno-Economic Analysis (TEA), and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). AHP criteria include Technology Readiness Level, methane loss, methane purity, investment cost, carbon footprint, land footprint, and water footprint. TEA analysis is conducted using NPV, IRR, and payback period indicators, while LCA is used to evaluate environmental impacts with a gate-to-grave approach. The results of the study indicate that PT XYZ's Bio-CNG-based POME management system has better environmental performance than the conventional open lagoon system. Membrane separation technology is the most optimal upgrading alternative based on AHP synthesis. TEA analysis shows that the Bio-CNG project is technically and economically feasible under various energy price scenarios, while LCA analysis shows the potential for reducing methane emissions by up to 80–90%. This study has also conducted robustness validation through AHP, TEA, and LCA validation to ensure the consistency and reliability of the research results. These findings support the development of a low-emission palm oil industry, the implementation of a circular economy, and the achievement of Indonesia's Net Zero Emission target.
