Abstract

Payment infrastructure in self-service businesses such as coin laundries in Indonesia currently faces significant operational inefficiencies due to reliance on physical coins and the lack of digital payment integration. Major issues include queues caused by the unavailability of small change, the burden of manual cash management, and the inaccuracy of conventional mechanical dispensers. This study aims to design and develop an automatic, Internet of Things (IoT)-based coin dispenser integrated with the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) digital payment system and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. The methodology used is prototyping, employing the ESP32 microcontroller as the main processing unit. The payment verification system is designed using Application Programming Interface (API) integration from a Payment Gateway (Midtrans) and Webhook protocols on cloud hosting (Dewaweb). Additionally, the device is equipped with a PN532 RFID module using an I2C interface for centralized membership point reward recording on the cloud server. Test results indicate that the mechanical actuator's coin dispensing accuracy reached 100%. Hardware communication interfaces operate highly responsively, with an average I2C latency of 14.25 ms and HMI screen UART latency of 11.5 ms. In network communication, the Webhook protocol proved capable of validating payments in real-time, averaging 0.54 seconds under ideal network conditions. Despite API request latency fluctuations due to varying internet quality, the implementation of fail-safe algorithms ensures the system remains stable and prevents synchronous blocking anomalies. Overall, the device has proven functional in processing coin exchange transactions independently, accurately, and transparently.
