Abstract

An earthquake is a vibration that occurs in the earth's crust that has a temporary movement and the vibration moves in all directions so that the impact cannot be predicted. In civil buildings, the movement of the earthquake will cause vibrations on the ground and move the building structure that stands on it, namely the floor and foundation so that it dramatically affects the performance of the structure. Efforts to anticipate a failure of structural performance caused by an earthquake need an additional tool to reduce earthquake forces. One of the tools that can be used to withstand shear forces in earthquakes is the fluid viscous damper (FVD). The use of this fluid viscous damper (FVD) is installed in the East Java office building, Surabaya. The purpose of installing the fluid viscous damper (FVD) tool is to determine the tool's performance when it is installed in terms of the number of tools. The analytical study in the East Java office building in Surabaya is divided into 2 stages. Analysis I of the building is designed using a dual system (SRPMK + shear wall) and analysis II of the building is designed using SRPMB + fluid viscous damper by removing the shear wall. The results of the study show that the performance of the fluid viscous damper tool can reduce the amount of reinforcement required needed by 18,78 4% of the volume of iron reinforcement and the decrease in deviation with the SRPMB system is 281,208 mm x-direction and 303,437 mm y-direction, compared to the addition of a fluid viscous damper. Hence, it becomes 194,06 mm and 270,828 mm for the x-direction and y-direction.
