Abstract
Rantai merupakan salah satu komponen utama pada sistem transmisi sepeda motor yang bekerja pada kondisi beban kontak dan gesekan berulang sehingga rentan mengalami keausan, terutama pada bagian pin rantai. Keausan tersebut menyebabkan berkurangnya dimensi pin, meningkatnya celah antara pin dan bushing. Salah satu metode yang dapat digunakan untuk meningkatkan kualitas permukaan pin rantai adalah pelapisan hard chrome menggunakan proses elektroplating. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh variasi kuat arus dan waktu pelapisan terhadap ketebalan, kekasaran, dan kekerasan lapisan hard chrome pada pin rantai tipe 428 berbahan AISI 15B25. Proses elektroplating dilakukan menggunakan larutan CrO3 sebesar 250 g/L dan H2SO4 sebesar 2,5 g/L dengan temperatur larutan 50 sampai 60°C serta menggunakan anoda timbal. Variasi kuat arus yang digunakan adalah 0,8 A, 1,2 A, dan 1,6 A, sedangkan variasi waktu pelapisan adalah 15, 20, dan 25 menit. Pengujian yang dilakukan meliputi pengukuran ketebalan lapisan, pengujian kekasaran permukaan, dan pengujian kekerasan mikro Vickers. Data hasil pengujian dianalisis menggunakan analisis regresi linear berganda untuk mengetahui pengaruh kuat arus dan waktu pelapisan terhadap karakteristik lapisan hard chrome. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan kuat arus dan waktu pelapisan berpengaruh terhadap peningkatan ketebalan dan kekerasan lapisan hard chrome. Ketebalan lapisan tertinggi diperoleh pada variasi 1,6 A selama 25 menit sebesar 35,5 µm, sedangkan kekerasan tertinggi diperoleh pada variasi 1,6 A selama 20 menit sebesar 572,9 HV. Analisis regresi linear berganda menunjukkan bahwa kuat arus dan waktu pelapisan berpengaruh signifikan terhadap ketebalan dan kekerasan, namun tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap kekasaran permukaan.

Motorcycle chains are essential components of the power transmission system and are continuously subjected to contact loads and friction during operation. These conditions cause wear on the chain pins, resulting in dimensional reduction, increased clearance between the pin and bushing, and accelerated chain elongation. One of the methods used to improve the surface properties of chain pins is hard chrome coating through the electroplating process. This study aims to investigate the effects of electric current and plating time on the coating thickness, surface roughness, and hardness of hard chrome coatings applied to AISI 15B25 motorcycle chain pins (type 428). The electroplating process was carried out using an electrolyte solution containing 250 g/L of chromic acid (CrO3) and 2.5 g/L of sulfuric acid (H2SO4) at a bath temperature of 50–60°C with a lead anode. The current variations were 0.8 A, 1.2 A, and 1.6 A, while the plating times were 15, 20, and 25 minutes. The coated specimens were evaluated through coating thickness measurement, surface roughness testing, and Vickers microhardness testing. The experimental data were analyzed using multiple linear regression to determine the influence of electric current and plating time on the characteristics of the hard chrome coating. The results showed that increasing the electric current and plating time improved the coating thickness and hardness. The maximum coating thickness of 35.5 µm was obtained at 1.6 A for 25 minutes, while the highest hardness of 572.9 HV was achieved at 1.6 A for 20 minutes. Multiple linear regression analysis indicated that electric current and plating time had a significant effect on coating thickness and hardness, but no significant effect on surface roughness.
