Abstract

The northern coast of Gresik is a dynamic coastal region with a high sedimentation rate resulting from the interaction of currents, waves, tides, and sediment supply from land, which requires mapping of sedimentation output potential and determination of priority utilization locations relative to the morphological changes occurring in the area. Priority locations were determined using a Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) approach, combining the Entropy method for objective criteria weighting and the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) for ranking, applied to nine criteria at 14 candidate locations processed using a Geographic Information System (GIS). The analysis shows that the Kalianyar Estuary is the highest-priority location (Ci = 0.9909), followed by the Randuboto River Estuary, the Leba'an River, and the Kali Pandikan Estuary. Morphological changes at these four priority locations were subsequently simulated using the Delft3D model under existing and post-dredging conditions, for both the west and east monsoon seasons. The modeling results show a consistent sediment accumulation pattern around the estuary mouths, with a higher intensity during the west monsoon, together with a seasonal backfilling tendency after dredging, indicating the need for periodic maintenance dredging. Based on its material characteristics, sandy sediment in the northwestern area has the potential to be used as reclamation and construction material, while clayey sediment in the eastern area is more suitable for mangrove ecosystem and pond rehabilitation. The results of this study can serve as a technical basis for planning a more objective, measurable, and sustainable management of sedimentation along the northern coast of Gresik.
