Abstract

Aircraft Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) companies are highly dependent on the accuracy of material availability to support smooth aircraft maintenance operations. One of the critical processes is the procurement of expendable goods, which are items used for operational maintenance needs with a high purchase frequency. At PT XYZ, this process still faces challenges in the form of long cycle times, process flow variations, and quality issues at the goods receiving point or Goods Receipt (GR) that slow down procurement. This study aims to identify bottleneck activities, analyze root causes, and propose business process redesign to reduce process cycle time. The study applies the Business Process Management (BPM) lifecycle framework, limited to the process discovery, analysis, and redesign stages. Supporting data analysis was conducted using a directly-follows graph in process mining through Apromore, while qualitative analysis employed an issue register, Ishikawa diagram, and why-why diagram. Improvement proposals were developed using the Heuristic Process Redesign method and evaluated through simulation using Bizagi Modeler. The results indicate that the goods receiving activity (Goods Receipt) is the main bottleneck in the expendable procurement process, influenced by information discrepancies, the need for material specification validation, and lengthy coordination chains in the exception path. The process redesign proposals were implemented through the application of resequencing, parallelism, case type differentiation, and numerical involvement heuristics. Simulation results show a reduction in average cycle time from 31.13 days to 29.19 days, or by 6.24%, which was proven statistically significant through confidence interval testing at a 95% confidence level.
