Abstract

PT Pabrik Kertas Tjiwi Kimia Tbk merupakan industri yang memproduksi kertas dan berbagai produk kimia seperti natrium hidroksida (NaOH), asam klorida (HCl), natrium hipoklorit (NaOCl), klorin cair (Cl₂), dan kalsium hipoklorit. Kegiatan magang dilaksanakan pada divisi Chemical Plant dengan tujuan mempelajari proses produksi HCl 32%, melakukan analisis neraca massa, neraca energi, dan Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP), serta menyelesaikan permasalahan operasional pada unit produksi. Permasalahan yang ditemukan adalah tingginya temperatur air demineralisasi sebesar 40°C yang digunakan sebagai media absorpsi pada Tail Tower yang menghasilkan larutan weak acid dengan temperatur sekitar 70°C, sedangkan unit sintesis membutuhkan weak acid pada temperatur 40°C. Solusi yang diusulkan adalah perancangan gasketed plate heat exchanger menggunakan perhitungan manual dan divalidasi dengan Aspen Exchanger Design and Rating (Aspen EDR). Hasil perancangan menunjukkan kebutuhan beban perpindahan panas sebesar 125,13 kW, dengan koefisien perpindahan panas menyeluruh hasil perhitungan manual sebesar 5.020 W/m²K dan hasil simulasi Aspen EDR sebesar 4.932 W/m²K. Rancangan menggunakan 37 plate dengan pressure drop sisi fluida panas sebesar 0,25 bar dan sisi fluida dingin sebesar 0,60 bar. Perbedaan hasil manual dan simulasi yang relatif kecil menunjukkan bahwa rancangan memiliki tingkat keandalan yang baik sehingga mampu memenuhi kebutuhan pendinginan air demineralisasi, menjaga kestabilan temperatur proses, serta meningkatkan efisiensi perpindahan panas pada unit produksi HCl.

PT Pabrik Kertas Tjiwi Kimia Tbk is a company that manufactures paper and various chemical products such as sodium hydroxide (NaOH), hydrochloric acid (HCl), sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), liquid chlorine (Cl₂), and calcium hypochlorite. The internship was conducted in the Chemical Plant division with the objective of studying the 32% HCl production process, performing mass balance and energy balance analyses, conducting a Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP), and resolving operational issues in the production unit. The problem identified was the high temperature of the demineralized water (40°C) used as the absorption medium in the Tail Tower, which produced a weak acid solution at a temperature of approximately 70°C, whereas the synthesis unit required weak acid at 40°C. The proposed solution is the design of a gasketed plate heat exchanger using manual calculations, validated with Aspen Exchanger Design and Rating (Aspen EDR). The design results indicate a heat transfer load requirement of 125.13 kW, with a total heat transfer coefficient of 5,020 W/m²K based on manual calculations and 4,932 W/m²K based on Aspen EDR simulations. The design uses 37 plates with a pressure drop of 0.25 bar on the hot fluid side and 0.60 bar on the cold fluid side. The relatively small difference between the manual and simulation results indicates that the design has a good level of reliability, enabling it to meet the cooling requirements for demineralized water, maintain process temperature stability, and improve heat transfer efficiency in the HCl production unit.
