Abstract

Brushless DC (BLDC) motors play a vital role in the development of electric vehicles due to their high efficiency and power density. The performance of these motors is heavily determined by the rotor configuration, which affects both electromagnetic characteristics and mechanical durability. This study aims to analyze and compare the performance of Surface Permanent Magnet (SPM) and Interior Permanent Magnet (IPM) configurations using Finite Element Method (FEM) simulations. The evaluated parameters include output power, torque, torque-speed characteristic, electromagnetic losses, and motor efficiency. Through this comparative study, the most optimal rotor configuration is determined based on torque-speed characteristics, field-weakening capability, and total electromagnetic losses under high-speed operating conditions.
