Abstract

Laporan magang ini disusun berdasarkan pelaksanaan kegiatan magang mandiri di PT Clariant Adsorbent Indonesia, perusahaan yang bergerak di bidang produksi adsorben berbasis bentonit untuk berbagai aplikasi industri, seperti bleaching earth, feed additive, foundry additive, dan container desiccant. Kegiatan magang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi mahasiswa melalui penerapan ilmu Teknik Kimia Industri secara langsung di lingkungan kerja, sekaligus memahami proses produksi, pengendalian mutu, sistem keselamatan dan kesehatan kerja (K3), serta pengelolaan lingkungan perusahaan. Selain mempelajari proses operasional, mahasiswa terlibat dalam kegiatan troubleshooting berupa studi efisiensi Rotary Dryer Line 2 melalui penerapan resirkulasi 50% udara panas buang (exhaust) dan pengurangan laju alir natural gas sebesar 10%. Analisis dilakukan menggunakan pendekatan neraca energi untuk mengevaluasi perubahan konsumsi energi dan kinerja proses. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa strategi tersebut mampu menurunkan konsumsi natural gas dari 27.964 Nm³/jam menjadi 22.827 Nm³/jam atau menghasilkan penghematan energi sebesar 18,35% tanpa menurunkan efisiensi operasi pengering. Optimalisasi ini juga berkontribusi terhadap penurunan biaya operasional serta mendukung penerapan produksi yang lebih efisien dan berkelanjutan. Secara keseluruhan, kegiatan magang memberikan pengalaman praktis yang memperkuat keterampilan teknis, kemampuan analisis, dan pemahaman mahasiswa terhadap implementasi teknologi proses di industri kimia.

This internship report was prepared based on the completion of an independent internship program at PT Clariant Adsorbent Indonesia, a company specializing in the production of bentonite-based adsorbents for various industrial applications, including bleaching earth, feed additives, foundry additives, and container desiccants. The internship aimed to enhance students' competencies through the practical application of Industrial Chemical Engineering knowledge in an industrial environment while providing a comprehensive understanding of production processes, quality control, occupational health and safety (OHS), and environmental management systems. In addition to observing operational activities, the internship involved a troubleshooting project focused on improving the energy efficiency of Rotary Dryer Line 2 by implementing a 50% hot exhaust gas recirculation system and reducing the natural gas flow rate by 10%. The evaluation was conducted using an energy balance approach to assess changes in energy consumption and process performance. The results demonstrated that the proposed strategy reduced natural gas consumption from 27.964 Nm³/h to 22.827 Nm³/h, corresponding to an energy saving of 18.35%, without compromising the operational efficiency of the drying process. This optimization also contributed to lower operating costs and supported the implementation of a more energy-efficient and sustainable production process. Overall, the internship provided valuable practical experience that strengthened the student's technical competencies, analytical skills, and understanding of process technology implementation in the chemical industry.
