Abstract

Transient stability analysis is crucial in industrial power systems, especially when major disturbances threaten operational continuity. This undergraduate thesis presents a study of transient stability in the power system of an oil and gas exploration company in South Sumatra, which previously experienced a blackout due to a short-circuit fault on one of its distribution lines. The company’s electrical system consists of 10 diesel generator units operating in an open-loop and radial distribution configuration. The objective of this study is to evaluate system responses to disturbances such as generator outages, short circuits, and motor starting events, and to design a frequency-based load shedding mechanism using the IEEE C37.106-1987 standard. Simulations will be carried out using ETAP software to analyze the impact of disturbances on voltage and frequency parameters. The analysis results are expected to provide recommendations for an effective load shedding scheme that allows the system to reach a new stable state and maintain synchronization during faults.
