Abstract
Pencemaran tanah oleh minyak bumi masih menjadi permasalahan lingkungan yang serius karena senyawa hidrokarbon yang terkandung dalam minyak bumi bersifat hidrofobik sehingga cenderung bertahan lama di dalam tanah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi efektivitas jenis oksidator permanganat dan persulfat dalam proses degradasi Total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) pada tanah tercemar minyak serta menganalisis peran dan pengaruh modifikasi matriks tanah berupa pasir besi dan CaO terhadap efisiensi penurunannya. Salah satu metode remediasi yang efektif dan cepat dalam menurunkan kadar hidrokarbon adalah chemical oxidation. Penelitian dilakukan secara eksperimental skala laboratorium dengan variasi oksidator permanganat (KMnO₄) dan persulfat (Na₂S₂O₈) dosis 5% (w/w), serta penambahan pasir besi dan CaO masing-masing 5% (w/w). Parameter utama yang dianalisis adalah penurunan konsentrasi TPH menggunakan metode gravimetri. Hasil pengolahan tanah tercemar minyak bumi sesuai dengan baku mutu Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon (TPH) rantai C10–C36 sebesar 1.000 mg/kg (nilai Total Konsentrasi/TK-C) sebagaimana diatur dalam Peraturan Pemerintah Nomor 22 Tahun 2021 tentang Penyelenggaraan Perlindungan dan Pengelolaan Lingkungan Hidup. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa persulfat lebih efektif dibandingkan permanganat dalam waktu reaksi 24 jam, dengan efisiensi penurunan tertinggi sebesar 33,27% pada kombinasi persulfat–CaO. Penambahan pasir besi meningkatkan permeabilitas tanah namun kurang efektif dalam menurunkan TPH karena diduga rendahnya Fe²⁺ reaktif. Sebaliknya, CaO meningkatkan efisiensi melalui aktivasi alkali yang menghasilkan radikal reaktif (SO₄•⁻ dan •OH) yang mampu mendegradasi hidrokarbon secara lebih optimal.

Soil contamination by petroleum remains a serious environmental issue, as the hydrocarbon compounds present in petroleum are hydrophobic and tend to persist in soil for extended periods. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of permanganate and persulfate oxidants in degrading Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon (TPH) in petroleum-contaminated soil, as well as to analyze the role and influence of soil matrix modification using iron sand and CaO on the efficiency of TPH reduction. Chemical oxidation is considered an effective and rapid remediation method for reducing hydrocarbon concentrations. This study was conducted experimentally at a laboratory scale using permanganate (KMnO₄) and persulfate (Na₂S₂O₈) at a dosage of 5% (w/w), with the addition of iron sand and CaO at 5% (w/w) as soil matrix modifiers. The main parameter analyzed was the reduction of TPH concentration using the gravimetric method. The contamination level was evaluated based on the Government Regulation Number 22 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of Environmental Protection and Management., which the treatment of petroleum-contaminated soil achieved compliance with the TPH quality standard for the C10–C36 hydrocarbon chain, namely 1,000 mg/kg (Total Concentration/TK-C value). The results showed that persulfate was more effective than permanganate within a 24 hour reaction time, achieving the highest removal efficiency of 33.27% in the persulfate-CaO combination. The addition of iron sand improved soil permeability but showed limited effectiveness in reducing TPH, likely due to the low content of reactive Fe²⁺. Conversely, CaO enhanced removal efficiency through alkaline activation.
