Abstract

The e-learning feature of the SUMU Pro mobile application (version 1.0) delivers content passively, remains misaligned with adult learning principles (andragogy), and lacks a commercialization strategy, resulting in an average of only five daily visits. This research aims to redesign the user experience (UX) in alignment with andragogical principles and to develop an innovative business model for monetizing the feature. A Design Thinking approach was applied across five stages: empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test. User needs were gathered through a survey of 100 members and in-depth interviews with five SUMU managers, analyzed using affinity mapping and the Value Proposition Canvas (VPC). Business strategy was formulated via the Business Model Canvas (BMC) adopting a freemium and pay per course model. The design solution was realized as a high-fidelity prototype (version 2.0) comprising 24 screens, integrating micro learning, progress tracking, interactive quizzes, digital certificates, and a community forum. Usability testing with five participants yielded a mean System Usability Scale (SUS) score of 77.0 (Grade B / "Excellent"), surpassing the minimum threshold of ≥74. Retrospective Think Aloud (RTA) analysis identified eight usability issues, three of which were classified as major. This study delivers a validated, user-centered UX prototype and a viable business model framework to support SUMU's financial sustainability.
