Abstract

The internship at PT Energi Agro Nusantara aims to provide an understanding of the bioethanol production process, utility systems, and quality control, as well as to analyze technical issues in the industry. Activities included observing the fermentation and refining processes, preparing Process Block Diagrams (PBDs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), conducting Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP), and calculating mass and energy balances. The case study focused on the high Total Solids (TS) content in the spent wash, which caused fouling in the Plate Heat Exchanger (PHE), thereby reducing heat transfer efficiency before the spent wash enters the biogas unit. The proposed solutions include the addition of an equalization tank, solid separation before the PHE, periodic cleaning, and optimization of operating conditions. The internship results demonstrate the importance of TS control in improving process efficiency, operational reliability, and supporting the implementation of green industry practices.
