Abstract

Perkembangan kawasan perkotaan yang pesat mendorong peningkatan emisi karbon dioksida (CO₂) dari berbagai aktivitas, terutama sektor transportasi dan permukiman, yang berpotensi menurunkan kualitas lingkungan. Di sisi lain, alih fungsi lahan mengakibatkan berkurangnya kemampuan Ruang Terbuka Hijau (RTH) dalam menjalankan fungsi ekologis sebagai penyerap karbon. Kota Purwokerto sebagai pusat kegiatan ekonomi dan pemerintahan di Kabupaten Banyumas menghadapi keterbatasan RTH publik serta rendahnya kapasitas serapan karbon yang dimiliki. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis besaran dan distribusi emisi CO₂ di wilayah Kota Purwokerto, mengevaluasi kemampuan RTH publik dalam menyerap emisi karbon, serta menyusun rekomendasi pengelolaan RTH berbasis peningkatan kapasitas serapan karbon sebagai upaya mitigasi emisi perkotaan.
Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif. Perhitungan emisi CO₂ sektor transportasi dan permukiman dilakukan berdasarkan data sekunder dan data primer, meliputi konsumsi LPG rumah tangga, respirasi penduduk, dan respirasi ternak. Data konsumsi LPG diperoleh melalui survei rumah tangga dan digunakan sebagai pembanding terhadap data distribusi resmi. Emisi yang dihasilkan kemudian dianalisis menggunakan pendekatan box model dan dipetakan secara spasial. Kapasitas serapan CO₂ RTH dihitung menggunakan pendekatan biomassa melalui persamaan alometrik berdasarkan data diameter pohon setinggi dada (DBH) yang diperoleh dari survei vegetasi pada RTH terpilih dengan metode purposive sampling. Hasil pengukuran digunakan untuk menghitung laju serapan karbon pada masing-masing jenis RTH.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa total emisi CO₂ di Kota Purwokerto mencapai 982.254,81 kgCO₂/hari, dengan kontribusi terbesar berasal dari Kecamatan Purwokerto Selatan sebesar 314.900,14 kgCO₂/hari. Kapasitas serapan RTH publik mencapai 7543,12 kgCO₂/hari atau sekitar 0,77% dari total emisi CO₂ perkotaan. Hasil analisis dengan Box Model menunjukkan bahwa Kecamatan Purwokerto Selatan memiliki konsentrasi CO₂ awal tertinggi sebesar 49.372 µg/m3 , sedangkan Purwokerto Barat memiliki konsentrasi terendah sebesar 37.115,91 µg/m3. Peningkatan kapasitas serapan RTH sebesar 50% menurunkan konsentrasi CO₂ sebesar 1,15–2,01%, sedangkan peningkatan kapasitas serapan sebesar 100% meningkatkan efektivitas penurunan menjadi 2,51–5,24%. Hasil tersebut menunjukkan bahwa optimalisasi vegetasi dengan intensifikasi pada RTH mampu meningkatkan fungsi ekologisnya sebagai penyerap CO₂

Rapid urban development has increased carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions from transportation and residential activities while reducing the ecological function of Green Open Spaces (GOS) through land use conversion. As the economic and administrative center of Banyumas Regency, Purwokerto faces limited public Green Open Spaces and low carbon sequestration capacity, resulting in an imbalance between urban emissions and the ability of vegetation to absorb atmospheric CO₂. This study aims to analyze the magnitude and spatial distribution of CO₂ emissions in Purwokerto City, evaluate the carbon sequestration capacity of public Green Open Spaces, and formulate management recommendations based on improving carbon sequestration capacity as an urban emission mitigation strategy.
A quantitative approach was applied using primary and secondary data. CO₂ emissions from the transportation and residential sectors were estimated based on household LPG consumption, human respiration, and livestock respiration. Household LPG data obtained through field surveys were used to validate official distribution data. Emissions were analyzed using the Fixed Box Model to estimate atmospheric CO₂ concentrations and their spatial distribution. Carbon sequestration capacity was estimated using a biomass approach through allometric equations based on tree diameter at breast height (DBH) measurements collected from selected Green Open Spaces using purposive sampling.
The results show that total CO₂ emissions in Purwokerto City reached 982,254.81 kgCO₂/day, with the highest emissions occurring in South Purwokerto District (314,900.14 kgCO₂/day). Public Green Open Spaces sequestered 7,543.12 kgCO₂/day, equivalent to 0.77% of total urban emissions. Fixed Box Model analysis indicated that South Purwokerto had the highest initial CO₂ concentration (49,372 µg/m³), while West Purwokerto had the lowest (37,115.91 µg/m³). Increasing carbon sequestration capacity by 50% and 100% reduced CO₂ concentrations by 1.15–2.01% and 2.51–5.24%, respectively, demonstrating that vegetation intensification can enhance the ecological role of Green Open Spaces as urban carbon sinks.
