Abstract

PT Pabrik Kertas Tjiwi Kimia, Tbk merupakan salah satu perusahaan manufaktur terintegrasi di bawah Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) Sinar Mas yang bergerak di bidang produksi kertas, alat tulis, dan bahan kimia industri. Kegiatan magang ini dilaksanakan di PT Pabrik Kertas Tjiwi Kimia Tbk, Sidoarjo, khususnya pada Chemical Plant yang memproduksi berbagai bahan kimia industri, antara lain natrium hidroksida (NaOH), asam klorida (HCl), klorin cair (Cl₂), sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), dan kalsium hipoklorit (Ca(OCl)₂). Selama pelaksanaan magang, dilakukan pengamatan dan pembelajaran terhadap aspek operasional perusahaan yang meliputi proses produksi, pengendalian kualitas (Quality Control), sistem utilitas, pengolahan limbah, serta penerapan sistem keselamatan, kesehatan kerja, dan lingkungan (K3L). Selain memahami kegiatan operasional perusahaan, pelaksanaan magang juga mencakup penyelesaian troubleshooting berupa evaluasi spesifikasi plate heat exchanger pada unit pengenceran natrium hidroksida melalui perhitungan manual dan simulasi menggunakan perangkat lunak Aspen Exchanger Design and Rating (Aspen EDR). Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa spesifikasi hasil simulasi memiliki kesesuaian yang baik dengan kondisi operasi aktual sehingga dapat digunakan sebagai dasar dalam mengevaluasi kinerja perpindahan panas dan mendukung upaya optimasi proses. Secara keseluruhan, kegiatan magang memberikan pemahaman yang komprehensif mengenai implementasi prinsip-prinsip teknik kimia pada industri kimia, khususnya dalam aspek operasi proses, pengendalian mutu, keselamatan kerja, analisis perpindahan panas, serta pemanfaatan perangkat lunak simulasi untuk evaluasi dan optimasi proses.

PT Pabrik Kertas Tjiwi Kimia Tbk is an integrated manufacturing company under Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) Sinar Mas, operating in the production of paper, stationery, and industrial chemicals. This internship was conducted at the company's Chemical Plant in Sidoarjo, which manufactures various industrial chemicals, including sodium hydroxide (NaOH), hydrochloric acid (HCl), liquid chlorine (Cl₂), sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), and calcium hypochlorite (Ca(OCl)₂). During the internship, observations and learning activities were carried out on the company's operational aspects, including production processes, quality control, utility systems, wastewater treatment, and the implementation of Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental (OHSE) management practices. In addition to gaining an understanding of the company's operational activities, the internship also involved a troubleshooting project focusing on the evaluation of the specifications of a plate heat exchanger in the sodium hydroxide dilution unit through manual calculations and simulations using Aspen Exchanger Design and Rating (Aspen EDR) software. The evaluation results indicated that the simulation specifications were in good agreement with the actual operating conditions, demonstrating that the simulation can serve as a reliable basis for evaluating heat transfer performance and supporting process optimization efforts. Overall, the internship provided a comprehensive understanding of the application of chemical engineering principles in the chemical industry, particularly in process operations, quality control, occupational safety, heat transfer analysis, and the utilization of process simulation software for process evaluation and optimization.
